On September 30, 2019, Pope Francis in his Apostolic Letter, Aperuit illis: Instituting the Sunday of the Word of God, announced that the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time would be celebrated as the Sunday of the Word of God. This year, that Sunday will fall on January 23, 2022.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions have prepared resources to help parishes observe this feast. The USCCB resource has catechetical, ecumenical, liturgical, and prayer resources available, and the FDLC resource includes the text of Aperuit illis, pastoral suggestions, sample intercessions, music suggestions and more.
