For those engaged in genealogical research, the Diocese of Scranton’s policy is to protect the privacy of those named in the records by allowing access only to sacramental records seventy years and older.  Records less than seventy years old are sealed to the public and only the named person(s) in the records(s) may access it (them).

The public should request sacramental records from the individual parish in the Diocese of Scranton that has possession of those records.

Additionally, the public may opt to conduct genealogical research at the Northeast Genealogical Society (NEPGS), 57 North Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania (570-829-1765, www.nepgs.com).  NEPGS has copies of the sacramental records of all churches in the Diocese of Scranton.  Records seventy years and older are accessible.
