Liturgical Ministry Formation Resources

Diocesan Liturgical Ministry Resource

This resource was prepared by the Office for Parish Life to assist parish leaders in the formation of various liturgical ministers in the parish, as well as provide suggestions for ongoing formation, education, and spiritual renewal.  This resource includes training for Extraordinary Ministers of Communion, Lectors, Cantors, Altar Servers, Ministers of Hospitality, and Ministers of Liturgical Environment.

Included in this comprehensive resource is the Leader’s Guide consisting of the procedural suggestions for these formation sessions, the full text for the PowerPoint presentation, and additional printed resources.

Liturgical Ministry Training

The Office for Parish Life also provides training for various liturgical ministries in the parish at the request of pastors or parish life coordinators.  A minimum of seven participants is required, and the parish is asked to publicize the event to neighboring parishes.  Please contact David Baloga at David-Baloga@dioceseofscranton.org or 570-207-2213 ext. 1158 for more information, or to schedule this training in your parish.

Extraordinary Minister of Communion Training

The Office for Parish Life periodically offers training sessions for new Extraordinary Ministersof Communion at the Diocesan Pastoral Center, located at 330 Wyoming Ave. Scranton, PA.

This all-day training session is based on the Liturgical Ministry Resource created by the Office for Parish Life, and covers the theology of the Eucharist and the Mass, the history and spirituality of the ministry, as well as the particular functions of the Extraordinary Minister of Communion, and how to properly prepare and carry out this ministry.  Candidates for the training should have the approval of his or her pastor/parish life coordinator.  There is no fee for the training, and lunch will be provided.  Please note that it is necessary for candidates to attend the entire session to receive certification as an Extraordinary Minister of Communion.  Current Extraordinary Ministers of Communion seeking a refresher course are also welcome to attend.

Liturgy Training Publications Virtual Workshops

Liturgy Training Publications of the Archdiocese of Chicago offers several different series of online workshops for cantors, lectors, extraordinary ministers of Communion, liturgists, teachers, musicians, RCIA coordinators and catechists throughout the year.  These virtual workshops are different than other webinars in that they invite participants to engage with the presenter and one another in providing feedback, reflections on the topic at hand, and discuss best practices and strategies for enhancing engagement in their ministries.

The cost for each session is $10-$15, and discounted rates are available when purchasing a series of workshops.  Customizable workshops are also available for your parish.  For more information, watch the video below.  To see what current and past sessions are available for purchase and download, please visit https://ltp.org/virtualworkshops.
