Official Notice Regarding Father Paul Ines |
The faithful of the Diocese of Scranton are
advised of the status of the Reverend Paul Ines
who served as Assistant Pastor at St. Boniface,
Williamsport, St. Gabriel, Hazleton, and
Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
Tunkhannock, and St. Mary of the Lake, Lake
Winola. The following notice which focuses on
the priest’s status was sent to the United
States Conference of Catholic Bishops with a
request that it be communicated to all dioceses
in the United States:
The Diocese of Scranton has advised
the Conference of its concerns regarding Father
Paul Ines, S.D.B., a priest of the Salesian
Society of Saint John Bosco, who was ordered by
his religious institute to return to his
community in Bethlehem, Israel. Father Ines had
been serving in the Diocese of Scranton but was
removed from ministry in December 2005 because
of inappropriate relationships with adults. It
is reported that Father Ines has not returned to
his community and that he is currently residing
in Northeastern Pennsylvania. He has previously
requested faculties in another diocese. Those
needing further information are asked to contact
James B. Earley, Chancellor of the Diocese of
Scranton, at 570-207-2216.
The Diocese has been advised that Father Ines
has attempted to contact parishioners in
parishes where he was assigned. Please know that
the Diocese does not approve of such behavior
and is continuing to urge Father Ines’ superior
to address the conduct and status of this
priest.
