OFFICIAL NOTICE
The following two norms express
the position of the Diocese of Scranton
concerning the use of church-related
properties by persons or associations for
political purposes, including campaign
stops:
1. Parish buildings and facilities may not
be used for partisan political purposes or
meetings. (Statute no. 43, Diocesan
Statues, 1983)
2. The Catholic community and Catholic
institutions should not honor those
who act in defiance of our fundamental moral
principles. They should not be given awards,
honors or platforms which would suggest
support for their actions. (United States
Conference of Catholic Bishops, Catholics
in Political Life, 2004)
The purpose of this notice is:
That the Faithful might know the position of
the Diocese;
That all who are responsible for
implementing these norms may know
their obligations; and
That reports of the transgression of these
norms be brought to the attention of those responsible for
allowing such violations.
