As of January 1, 2015, a new policy is in place for ordering papal blessings. Papal blessings may be requested by filling out a downloadable application found on the Office of Papal Charities website and then submitting the form to Vatican City by mail or fax.
Blessings are granted for the following occasions:
- Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation
- Priestly Ordination
- Religious Profession
- Secular Consecration
- Ordinations of Permanent Deacons
- Anniversaries: Marriage (10, 25, 40, 50, 60 years)*, Priestly Ordination, Religious Profession
- Birthdays: (18, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100)*
- Catholic individuals or families (with name and surname of the spouses united in a religious marriage)
*The nihil obstat or approval of ecclesiastical authority is required for these occasions.
Payment is made after you receive the blessing parchment. The Office of Papal Charities will include an invoice for the cost of the parchment and postage with the shipment. You may then make the payment via bank transfer (information on banking coordinates will be included with the parchment) or online by credit card.
