Acts of the Apostles 2:42-47

They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and
to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the
prayers. Awe came upon everyone, and many wonders and
signs were done through the apostles. All who believed were
together and had all things in common; they would sell their
property and possessions and divide them among all according
to each one’s need. Every day they devoted themselves to
meeting together in the temple area and to breaking bread in
their homes. They ate their meals with exultation and
sincerity of heart, praising God and enjoying favor with all
people. And every day the Lord added to their number those
who were being saved.

MISSION STATEMENT

We, the Catholic faithful of the Diocese of Scranton, in union
with our Holy Father, the Pope, are called through baptism
to share in the mission which Jesus Christ has entrusted to the
One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Priests, deacons,
religious and laity, under the leadership of our Bishop, cooperate
to proclaim the Gospel in accordance with the teaching of the
Church, to celebrate the sacraments, especially the Eucharist, for
the salvation of all, and to witness by grace to the Kingdom of God
so as to promote a culture of life, justice and peace.

“The Eucharist, since it embraces the concrete, everyday existence of the believer, makes possible day by day, the progressive transformation of all those called by grace to reflect the Son of God.  There is nothing authentically human—our thoughts and affections, our words and deeds—that does not find in the sacrament of the Eucharist the form it needs to be lived to the full.”

This Reflection Day is open to all who desire to become more deeply united to Christ through the transforming power of the Eucharist. It is highly recommended for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and for those involved in the Sacramental preparation of the young.

Pastoral Formation Institute
Mission Statement

Baptism issues a universal call to holiness and Christian maturity to community, mission and ministry.  The Christian community, in order to witness to and build up the reign of God, invites followers of Jesus Christ to share their personal gifts and spiritual charisms through various forms of service.

The explicit role of the Pastoral Formation Institute in the Church’s mission of evangelization is to affirm, instruct and form adult Christians who have been called forth for apostolic works.

To this end, the Pastoral Formation Institute is committed to a partnership with diocesan offices and parishes to offer an integrative process that enables ongoing intellectual enrichment, pastoral skills development, and spiritual growth directed towards ministry within the Church and the global community.

Catechesis within the Church’s Mission of Evangelization

Christ calls all members of the Church to proclaim Christ to every generation.  Christians evangelize by professing faith in Christ, celebrating the Christian mysteries in the Liturgy, praying and embracing the Christian way of life.

Catechesis is an important moment in the evangelizing mission of the Church.  Catechesis echoes the word of God contained in Revelation, transmitted through Scripture and Tradition, and faithfully preserved in the teaching authority of the Church.
