Parish Social Concerns Committee Training

The Office of Social Concerns/Pro-Life of the Diocese of Scranton encourages parishioners to schedule training sessions for building effective parish outreach programs.  The sessions will be held on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided.  There is no charge for this training.

The material for the sessions is taken from the U.S. Bishops’ document “Communities of Salt and Light.”  Participants will learn the tenets of Catholic social teaching derived from Scripture, Encyclicals, and various texts.   Participants will also hear first- hand accounts from those who have started parish Social Concerns and Pro-Life Committees.

Those interested in scheduling a training in their region are asked to contact the Office of Social Concerns/Pro-Life at (570) 207-2213, ext. 1130.

[The Church] cannot and must not remain on the sidelines in the fight for justice.  She has to play her part through rational argument and she has to reawaken the spiritual energy without which justice, which always demands sacrifice, cannot prevail and prosper.
