Parish Social Concerns Committee Training

The Office of Social Concerns/Pro-Life of the Diocese of Scranton will offer training for anyone who would like to get involved in parish social outreach.  Hosted by the parish community of Holy Trinity, Holy Child, and St. Stanislaus in Nanticoke, the training will be held April 8, 2006 in the church hall of Holy Trinity Church, 520 S. Hanover Street, Nanticoke.  The session will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and lunch will be provided.  There is no charge for this training.

The material for the session is taken from the U.S. Bishops’ document “Communities of Salt and Light.”  Participants will learn the tenets of Catholic social teaching derived from Scripture, Encyclicals, and various texts.   Participants will also hear first- hand accounts from those who have started parish Social Concerns Committees.

Anyone interested in attending this training may register by contacting the Office of Social Concerns/Pro-Life at (570) 207-2213, ext. 1130.

[The Church] cannot and must not remain on the sidelines in the fight for justice.  She has to play her part through rational argument and she has to reawaken the spiritual energy without which justice, which always demands sacrifice, cannot prevail and prosper.
