Catholic Television Wins Two National Awards

Catholic Television of the Diocese of Scranton has been awarded two Proclaim Awards by the Catholic Communication Campaign of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
The CCC announced the winners of its annual Proclaim Awards honoring excellence in diocesan communications during the 2006 Catholic Media Convention held recently in Nashville, Tenn.

Twelve Proclaim Awards and 11 certificates of merit were presented to 16 dioceses throughout the country. Entries were reviewed by a jury of media representatives from the USCCB, the Diocese of Arlington (Va.), the Catholic Academy for Communications Arts Professionals, and Visual Edge and Atlantic Video, Inc. of Washington, D.C.

Demonstrating their consistent abilities in producing quality programs with meaningful content, several winners from past years were honored again in 2006. The Diocese of Scranton, the Diocese of Trenton (N.J.), the Diocese of Toledo (Ohio), and the Archdiocese of Seattle (Wash.) again received Proclaim Awards in two categories. The Archdiocese of Hartford (Conn.) received two certificates of merit.

Catholic Television of the Diocese of Scranton won in the category of Special Television Masses for “The Solemn Pontifical Mass of The Chrism,” a live broadcast during Holy Week, and in the Regular Television Masses category for “The Daily Mass from St. Peter’s Cathedral.”

CTV Manager James Brennan served as the director; Michael Fallon, Edward Koons and Carl Porter were the camera operators; and Dan Gallagher was the audio board operator for both of these broadcasts.

CTV has won six other Proclaim Awards. The most recent prior to this year’s was the live broadcast of Bishop Joseph F. Martino’s installation.

Owned and operated by the Diocese of Scranton, CTV began broadcasting in 1986. The CTV network consists of two Class-A Low Power television stations carried on six Cable TV systems.

CTV reaches a potential audience of more than 230,000 households in northeastern Pennsylvania. CTV is funded by the Diocese of Scranton, including funds from the Diocesan Annual Appeal and the Catholic Communication Campaign collection.

The Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) develops media programming, projects, and resources that promote Gospel values. The work of the campaign is made possible by generous donations of Catholic parishioners who contribute to the CCC's annual appeal. Fifty percent of the funds remain in the diocese for local projects.

This marked the 25th year of the awards program. The 2006 Proclaim Awards can be viewed on streaming video at www.atlanticvideo.com/clients/ccom.
