Tickets Available for Papal Mass in New York City

The Archdiocese of New York has offered to make tickets available to the Solemn Pontifical Mass at Yankee Stadium to be celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI on Sunday, April 20, 2008. At this time, there is no indication of how many tickets will be provided for interested persons from the Diocese of Scranton.

Individuals who wish to attend the Mass at Yankee Stadium are asked to provide their name, address, and telephone number to their pastor. Security may require the individual’s Social Security number/date of birth, but as of now we have not been formally notified that this important information must be provided.

The Diocese of Scranton must prepare a list of the names of those wishing to attend the Mass by no later than Jan. 1. Therefore, it is imperative that pastors have the names prior to Dec. 27.

Further, depending on the response, the Diocese will make every effort to arrange for transportation from key locations. Whether buses can or should be secured will depend on the number of tickets provided to the Diocese and the level of interest.

At this point, there are still many uncertainties about security, transportation, seating, etc. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
