Mass in Italian To Be Celebrated Sept. 2
at Cathedral
Most Rev. Joseph F. Martino, D.D., Hist. E.D., will be
the principal celebrant and homilist for the
annual Mass in Italian to be offered Sunday,
Sept. 2, at 12:15 p.m. in St. Peter’s
Cathedral in Scranton.
The liturgy is celebrated in conjunction
with La Festa Italiana, which occurs over
the Labor Day weekend, Sept. 1-3, on
Courthouse Square, one block from the
Cathedral.
The Mass, which typically draws a
standing-room-only congregation, will be
broadcast live by CTV: Catholic Television.
CTV will rebroadcast the liturgy on Tuesday,
Sept. 4, at 12:10 p.m. and 7 p.m., and again
on Columbus Day, Oct. 8, at those same
times.
All priests in the Diocese are invited to
concelebrate or attend the Italian Mass.
Concelebrants who have confirmed their
participation include Rev. Philip A.
Altavilla, Rev. Joseph F. Cipriano, Rev. Sam
J. Ferretti, Rev. Martin J. Gaiardo,
Monsignor Philip A. Gray, Rev. Dominic
Papa, C.P., Monsignor Patrick J. Pratico,
and Monsignor Constantine V. Siconolfi.
Rev. Shane L. Kirby, will serve as master of
ceremonies. Deacon Carmine Mendicino will be
the deacon for the liturgy.
Music ministry for the Italian Mass will be
provided by the Dunmore Community Chorus and
the St. Anthony of Padua Church Choir and
Brass Quartet directed by Joseph Moffitt,
with organist Eugene Mentz. Dominick
DeNaples, Nick Luongo, Patrick A. Luongo,
Patrick F. Luongo and Rose Mentz will
accompany on mandolin and guitar. Monica
Spishock is the tympanist. Deano Noto is the
leader of song.
The lectors are Judge Robert Mazzoni and
Karen Clifford. The Prayer of the Faithful
will be led by Atty. Frank Castellano, Marie
Santilli, Michael Semian and William
Genello.
The offertory gifts will be presented by
Christopher and Ann DiMattio, Patrick
Fricchione, Pat Guido and Debbie Trozzolillo.
Patrick Caramanno, Johnathan Eboli, Stephen
Eboli, Andrew Fazio Sr., Angelo Valvano and
Guy M. Valvano are the ushers.
