Advancement Director Will Coordinate
Financial Support for Catholic Schools
The Diocese of Scranton has
established a new position to coordinate
financial support for its new Catholic
school systems. Kevin M. Haggerty has been
appointed advancement director for Catholic
schools.
Under the Strategic Plan
promulgated last spring, Diocesan Catholic
schools have been organized into four
regional systems. Mr. Haggerty will work
with the systems and each of their schools
to facilitate and coordinate all school
fundraising efforts. His duties include:
· Create
a database of existing fundraising programs
and the individuals involved with these
programs.
· Ensure
that programs are in place for students and
families to successfully meet their $500
fundraising goal, which is an important
component of school budgets.
· Work
with Parent Teacher Organizations to advance
their current fundraising programs.
· Develop
and advance new fundraising initiatives at
the school level, and also at the
system-wide level, by engaging the support
of the business community.
· Develop
a program specifically designed to offset
the costs associated with the technology
upgrades being made in the schools.
Mr. Haggerty’s two most
recent career experiences were in higher
education. He was the director of the Center
for Social Justice and a consultant for the
Service Learning Center at Lackawanna
College in Scranton. Prior to that he was
executive director of the Center for Social
Outreach at DeSales University in Saucon
Valley.
He previously taught in the
Inner City Youthful Offender Diversity Youth
Programs for the Philadelphia School
District, and was an allocations officer and
outreach coordinator for the Pennsylvania
Department of the Auditor General.
Mr. Haggerty was a member of
the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves from
1995-1998. He served in a reserve unit in
Reading and on active duty with the 10th
Marine Division at Camp LeJeune, N.C.
Mr. Haggerty is a graduate of
Villanova University. He is completing a
master’s degree in education initiated from
DeSales University.
He is a member of St. Mary of
Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore. He also
serves as a lector and member of the
Fundraising Committee at St. Peter’s
Cathedral in Scranton.
