Advancement Director Will Coordinate
Financial Support for Catholic Schools

 

The Diocese of Scranton has established a new position to coordinate financial support for its new Catholic school systems. Kevin M. Haggerty has been appointed advancement director for Catholic schools.

Under the Strategic Plan promulgated last spring, Diocesan Catholic schools have been organized into four regional systems. Mr. Haggerty will work with the systems and each of their schools to facilitate and coordinate all school fundraising efforts. His duties include:

·      Create a database of existing fundraising programs and the individuals involved with these programs.

·      Ensure that programs are in place for students and families to successfully meet their $500 fundraising goal, which is an important component of school budgets.

·      Work with Parent Teacher Organizations to advance their current fundraising programs.

·       Develop and advance new fundraising initiatives at the school level, and also at the system-wide level, by engaging the support of the business community.

·      Develop a program specifically designed to offset the costs associated with the technology upgrades being made in the schools.

Mr. Haggerty’s two most recent career experiences were in higher education. He was the director of the Center for Social Justice and a consultant for the Service Learning Center at Lackawanna College in Scranton. Prior to that he was executive director of the Center for Social Outreach at DeSales University in Saucon Valley.

He previously taught in the Inner City Youthful Offender Diversity Youth Programs for the Philadelphia School District, and was an allocations officer and outreach coordinator for the Pennsylvania Department of the Auditor General.

Mr. Haggerty was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves from 1995-1998. He served in a reserve unit in Reading and on active duty with the 10th Marine Division at Camp LeJeune, N.C.

Mr. Haggerty is a graduate of Villanova University. He is completing a master’s degree in education initiated from DeSales University.

He is a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore. He also serves as a lector and member of the Fundraising Committee at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Scranton.
