Catholic Social Services Will Provide Flood Assistance
Catholic Social Services of the Diocese of Scranton will assess household needs and offer financial assistance for victims of the recent flooding.
Most Rev. Joseph F. Martino, D.D., Hist. E.D., Bishop of Scranton, had directed that a second collection be taken in all parishes at Masses of
obligation last weekend, July 1-2.
Bishop Martino said the collection was necessary to help alleviate the suffering in our midst. The damage in the Diocese of Scranton is very
widespread. Thousands of our brothers and sisters have been affected.
Monies raised by the collection will be used to provide financial assistance to households for clean-up efforts, according to Msgr. Joseph P. Kelly,
Diocesan Secretary for Catholic Human Services and executive director of Catholic Social Services.
You do not have to belong to a parish or even be Catholic, he said. We just want to help as many people as we can.
