Collection Helps Catholic Relief Services
Provide Humanitarian Aid
Catholic Relief Services is the official
international humanitarian agency of the
Catholic community in the United States. The
agency provides assistance to people in more
than 100 countries and territories based on
need, regardless of race, nationality or
creed.
The annual collection to support Catholic
Relief Services will be taken in the Diocese
of Scranton the weekend of July 24-25.
All around the world programs supported by
the Catholic Relief Services Collection are
making a difference in the lives of millions
of people. These programs are giving hope to
the poor by eliminating food crises and
improving economies in impoverished
countries, providing health care and clean
water to communities, giving immigrants and
refugees a fair chance in the legal system,
and advocating on behalf of those without a
voice.
“This is the perfect opportunity for us to
express our compassion and generosity,” said
Bishop Joseph C. Bambera. “The collection
has the theme of ‘Jesus in disguise,’ which
reminds us that Christ is present in those
who suffer—and in those who respond
compassionately to their needs.”
Money from the collection is distributed to
Catholic Relief Services for international
relief and development, Migration Refugee
Services for refugee resettlement, the
Catholic Legal Immigration Network Inc., the
Holy Father’s Relief Fund for emergency
assistance, and the Secretariat of Cultural
Diversity in the Church for evangelization
and ministry.
“Thank you for your support of the Catholic
Relief Services Collection,” Bishop Bambera
said. “Through this Collection we can give
hope to ‘Jesus in disguise.’”
