Brendan Murphy Appointed Family Life
Director
Brendan Murphy has been appointed to the
position of director of family life,
marriage preparation and adult faith
formation in the Office for Parish Life,
effective July 1.
He will assume all responsibilities for the
family life apostolate in the Diocese,
including marriage preparation and Natural
Family Planning (NFP), Beginning Experience
and Retrouvaille. He will continue his
efforts to serve the parishes by fostering
adult catechesis and evangelization.
“All of us in the Office for Parish Life
look forward to cooperating with Brendan to
serve the parishes in the Diocese in these
areas of family life,” said Janet P.
Benestad, Diocesan Secretary for Parish Life
and Evangelization.
Mr. Murphy came to the Diocese in 2001 as
director of youth and young adult
programming at St. Pius X Seminary/Fatima
Renewal Center. In May 2005, he became an
associate in the Office for Parish Life
assisting with religious education, most
particularly adult education by teaching
courses in the Pastoral Formation Institute.
He has assisted with the development and
implementation of a revised marriage
preparation format which includes theology
of the body catechesis in the pre-Cana
program.
Mr. Murphy has a master’s degree in theology
from Fordham University. He is married to
Heather Murphy who, like Brendan, is a
certified NFP instructor. They have two
children, Eoghan, 3, and Clara, 1.
