Regarding Albert M. Liberatore
The Holy See has notified the Diocese of Scranton that Albert M. Liberatore has been dismissed from the clerical state ex officio for the good of the Church. This action was taken in response to a finding of sexual misconduct involving a minor.
Dismissal from the clerical state means that Albert M. Liberatore is no longer an incardinated cleric of the Diocese of Scranton. He may no longer function as a priest anywhere. He may not hold any parochial or administrative office in the Church. He may not teach Theology in a Catholic institution.
Albert M. Liberatore functioned as a priest of the Diocese of Scranton from 1989 to 2004, during which time he served in the following assignments: Assistant Pastor at St. John the Evangelist, Pittston; Assistant Pastor at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Scranton; Director of Vocations and Faculty Member, St. Pius X Seminary, Dalton; Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus and St. Joseph, Duryea; and as a member of the Theology faculty at The University of Scranton. He was also assigned to residence in St. Clare parish, Scranton, and St. Mary of Mt. Carmel parish, Dunmore.
