What is a Diocesan Priest?

 . . . a Catholic priest who is committed to serve and live in a particular Diocese.

A priest of the Diocese of Scranton does pastoral ministry in one of the eleven counties of Northeastern Pennsylvania:  Bradford, Lackawanna, Lycoming, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, Wayne, and Wyoming.

A Diocesan priest serves in various places:
Parishes, schools, colleges, prisons, nursing homes, with people of all age groups.             

A Diocesan priest ministers in various ways:

  •  Praying for people and teaching them how to pray  

  •  Celebrating Mass and the sacraments  

  •  Counseling  

  •  Teaching the Catholic faith  

  •  Providing leadership in the Catholic Community  

  •  Helping people find meaning in life by responding to the call
    to holiness and mission
