In his Prayer Vigil Address at World Youth Day 2016, Pope Francis passionately shared:

“Dear young people, we didn’t come into this world to ‘vegetate’, to take it easy, to make our lives a comfortable sofa to fall asleep on. No, we came for another reason: to leave a mark.

Following Jesus demands a good dose of courage. Take the path of the ‘craziness’ of our God, who teaches us to encounter him in the hungry, the thirsty, the naked, the sick, the friend in trouble, the prisoner, the refugee and the migrant, and our neighbors who feel abandoned.”

In response to our Holy Father’s challenge and the recommendations of members of the young church, our Diocesan Offices for Parish Life and Vocations are once again sponsoring a Diocesan Day of Service for those aged 16 to 35 and adult chaperones on Saturday, September 21, 2019. This year, the Day of Service will follow a theme based around the World Day of Care for Creation. The Day of Care for Creation, held annually on the first Sunday in September, celebrates the natural world and encourages action to protect the environment and all creation. Many of our placements this year will focus on this theme.
